Simon Gates was baptized on 3 May 1646 at Hingham, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA.1 He married an unknown person circa November 1670 at Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA; Torrey indicated their first child was born in 1671 and that they lived in Cambridge, Lancaster and Boston.1,3 He died on 26 August 1692 at Boston (Muddy River), Suffolk, Massachusetts, USA; Per Torrey he died intestate in the part of Boston, MA, called Muddy River, now Brookline, MA. Radasch gave death as 21 April 1693 in Brockton, MA as did Charles Otis Gates in his Genealogy of the Stephen Gates family. Torrey supplied the 26 Aug 1692 date.4,5
     He Per Torrey Simon Gates was a soldier in King Philip's War. In 1735 his son, Jonathan Gates, was granted land in Narragansett Township on account of his father's service in the war (see v. 16, p. 145, April 1862). On 9 Nov 1670 he was sued by John Woods of Marlborough, MA for breaking a marriage contract with his daughter Frances. In his suit against Simon Gates, Woods stated that 'he hath contracted with another to the great wrong of said Frances.'

After his father's death Simon and his mother received the place in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

His will dated in Stow 5 Sep 1701 was proved 15 Sept 1707. He was an early proprietor at Preston, Connecticut where in 1898 descendants were still found. He lived at Stow, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA.5
