Mr. Galyon was a practicing attorney with the firm of Kennerly, Montgomery & Finley, P.C. He was president of the firm, and had been associated with it since 1971. His practice was concentrated in the areas of corporate and commercial law with emphasis on litigation related to construction and real property matters, primarily in the defense of architects and engineers. Mr. Galyon was a Morehead Scholar graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree in business administration and held a J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law. While in law school, Mr. Galyon was a member of the National Moot Court Team and served as Comments Editor of the University of Tennessee Law Review. Upon graduation, he was elected from his class to membership in the order of the coif. Mr. Galyon served as president of the Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association and was selected for membership in the International Association of Defense Counsel. He was a member of the Defense Research Institute and Trial Lawyers Association and the Alumni Advisory Council for the University of Tennessee College of Law. He also received an Alumni Leadership Award for his work as chairman of the annual fund drive of the College of Law. Mr. Galyon was an associate member of the Tennessee Chapter of American Institute of Architects. He authored an article published in the October 1987 issue of The Construction Specifier entitled, ''Site Safety - The Design Professional's Dilemma.'' Mr. Galyon was a board certified trial advocate with the National Board of Trial Advocacy and a certified mediator for the Federal Court system. He was a member of the Defense Counsel Trial Academy held annually in Boulder, Colo. Mr. Galyon was a member of of the Board of Governors of the Knoxville Bar Association and served as chairman for the Attorney Division of the campaign for the Knoxville Museum of Art. He was chairman of the Fundraising for the Arts for the East Tennessee Foundation. He served on the board of directors for the YMCA and the Nature Conservancy of Tennessee.
