     Godheut (?) was born circa 1010 at Normandy, France. She married Roger II 'The Spaniard' Conches de Toeni, son of Ralph II Seigneur de Toeni , Lord of Conches and Miss Countess of Bayeux, before 1025.^1,2 Godheut (?) married an unknown person after 1038.^1,2 She died after 1077.

     Gunnhild Olafsdottir was born in 923 at Sweden.

     Herlouin Seigneur de Hugleville was born circa 983 at Hugleville, Normandy, France.

     Mauger Seigneur de St. Clair was born circa 1005 at St Clair-sur-Elle, Manche, Normandy, France. He was the son of Richard II 'The Good' Duke of Normandy and Judith of Brittany. Mauger Seigneur de St. Clair died in 1047.

     Miss St. Clair de Bassenville was born circa 1005 at St Clair-sur-Elle, Manche, Normandy, France.

     Elizabeth de Sours was born circa 1015 at France.
     She Undoubtedly Elizabeth is from a place called Sours. The only place Ifind is a Chateau Sours, a winery in Bordeaux. I have another personHumberge de Sours (wife of Eberhard de Breteuil), born about the sametime. They could be sisters.

     Landeric IV (Landry) Comte de Nevers was born circa 967 at Maers, Nievre, Bourgogne, France. He married Mathilde (Maud) of Burgundy, daughter of Otto Guillaume Count of Burgundy and Ermentrude (Irmgard) de Roucy, in 989.¹ Landeric IV (Landry) Comte de Nevers died on 11 May 1028 at Nevers, Nievre, Bourgogne, France.¹

     Mathilde (Maud) of Burgundy was born circa 984 at Bourgogne, France. She was the daughter of Otto Guillaume Count of Burgundy and Ermentrude (Irmgard) de Roucy. Mathilde (Maud) of Burgundy married Landeric IV (Landry) Comte de Nevers in 989.² Mathilde (Maud) of Burgundy died on 13 November 1005.¹

     Gerard I Count von Wassenberg was born circa 988 at Wassenberg, Lorraine now Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. He died in 1035 at Heinsberg, Lorraine now Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

     Arlogia of Orkney was born circa 1013 at Orkney, Orkney Islands, Scotland.

     Brusi Sigurdsson , Jarl of Orkney was born circa 988 at Orkney, Orkney Islands, Scotland. He died after 31 August 1030.¹

Brusi, Jarl of one-third of Orkney 1014, a 'mild and very peaceable man,wise, eloquent and popular.' When Thorfinn invaded Orkney from Caithnessin 1018, Brusi induced Einar to allow Thorfinn to have Somerled’s share.In return he handed the administration and defence of his own share toEinar on the understanding that if he outlived him he should recover itand acquire Einar’s third as well. Thus, after Einar’s death in theautumn of 1020, he became entitled to two-thirds of Orkney; but Thorfinnclaimed half of Einar’s third of right, and suggested that as Brusi wasso peaceful a man he might well be content with his original third. Brusiwent to Norway with his son Ragnvald (b. 1011) to appeal to King St. Olaf(1015-1028) and became his man for all his inherited lands in Orkney (?Spring 1021). Thorfinn followed and the King divided Orkney, givingone-third to Brusi, one-third to Thorfinn and keeping one third himself,The King gave his own third of Orkney as a fief to Jarl Brusi, who thushad two-thirds once more and returned to Orkney in the autumn of 1021.Thorfinn, who remained in Caithness took taxes and dues from his third ofOrkney, but made no provision for the defence of the Nordreys, the wholeburden of which fell on Brusi. By a further agreement made after thedeposition of St. Olaf in 1028 and before 1034, Brusi surrenderedone-third to Thorfinn, who in return assumed the whole defence of theNordreys. Soon after this Jarl Brusi died (? 1030), 'in the days of Cnutthe Powerful,' a little after the fall of King St. Olaf i.e. between 31Aug. 1030 and 12 Nov. 1035. He left a son Ragnvald.      Constance d' Eu was born circa 1009 at Eu, Seine-Inferieure, Normandy, France. She was the daughter of William l Comte Heimois & d' Eu and Beatrice le Goz.
     Constance d' Eu Constance was a 1st cousin of the half blood to Gilbert, which makesmarriage somewhat questionable, but would explain why Gilbert finallyreceived the Countship of Eu, which his father had, but only afterWilliam was Count in the period between father and son.

It has not been proven one way or another whether Godfrey & William werehalf or full brothers, so Constance (if she existed) may have been a full1st cousin to Gilbert.

A better explanation of Gilbert becoming Count of EU would be thatGilbert’s father, Godfrey, who was originally given the lordship(Seigneury?) of Brionne, was then made Count of EU by his father DukeRichard I. When his brother Richard II 'the Good' became Duke in 996,Godfrey rebelled & was then deprived of EU. Godfrey’s brother William,who had been Count of the Heimois, was then awarded the countship of EU.Godfrey was eventually forgiven & given back the lordship of Brionne, butnot the countship of Eu. Godfrey died 1015 leaving Gilbert with only thelordship of Brionne. At William’s death, Godfrey’s son, Gilbert,_assumed_ the land & title, not through marriage, but because he arguedthat it was his inheritance since after William died, his wife & sonswere expelled from Eu during Guy of Burgundy's rebellion. Gilbert wasassassinated (having claimed the County of Eu for less than a year). Hischildren were then forced to flee Normandy & were never to bring EU backinto this branch. Eu reverted back to William’s son, William Busac, whoin turn was deprived of it in favor of his brother Robert who became oneof the Conqueror’s most trusted generals.

Another scenario put forth by Dave Utzinger (which I think incorrect) isthat Godfrey didn’t rebel & lose Eu & that Gilbert inherited it. It wasGilbert who rebelled against Richard II & was thus deprived of Eu.Chronologically this doesn’t work as Richard II died 1027. In 1039-40,Wm the Conqueror (gson of Richard II) was Duke of Normandy. Also it isknown that Gilbert’s uncle William was awarded Eu just prior to his death.

At any rate, it would seem that Gilbert claimed Eu, not by marriage butby inheritance & because at that time it had (temporarily) been vacated.Even if he married a dau of William Count of Eu’s dau (& I am extremelyskeptical of this), he still would not have become Count of Eu becauseWm’s sons had dibs.

Beatrice le Goz married William l Comte Heimois & d' Eu, son of Richard I 'The Fearless' Duke of Normandy and (?) Concubine(s), after 1007. Beatrice le Goz died before 1014.

     Raoul IV de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine was born circa 1020 at Beaumont-sur-Sarthe(le-Vicomte), Sarthe, Maine/Pays-de-la-Loire, France. He was the son of Raoul III de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine and Eremburgis (?) Raoul IV de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine married Emme de Montrevault , Dame de Lude, daughter of Etienne (Tescelin) Seigneur de Montrevault and Adelberge (Audeburge) de Lude, between 3 March 1047 and 1048.¹ Raoul IV de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine died after 1065.

     Hubert de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine was born circa 1050 at Beaumont-sur-Sarthe(le-Vicomte), Sarthe, Maine/Pays-de-la-Loire, France. He was the son of Raoul IV de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine and Emme de Montrevault , Dame de Lude. Hubert de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine married Ermengarde de Nevers, daughter of William I (Guillaume) Comte de Nevers and Ermengarde de Tonnerre, on 6 December 1067.¹ Hubert de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine died before 1095.¹

     Ermengarde de Nevers was born circa 1051 at Nevers, Nievre, Bourgogne, France. She was the daughter of William I (Guillaume) Comte de Nevers and Ermengarde de Tonnerre. Ermengarde de Nevers married Hubert de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine, son of Raoul IV de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine and Emme de Montrevault , Dame de Lude, on 6 December 1067.³ Ermengarde de Nevers died after 14 October 1090.¹

     Aelis (Adele) Comtesse de Bar-sur-Aube was born circa 1019 at Bar-sur-Aube, Aube, Champagne, France. She was the daughter of Nocher III Comte de Bar-sur-Aube. Aelis (Adele) Comtesse de Bar-sur-Aube married an unknown person before 1034.¹ She married Raoul III 'The Great' Count of Valois & Vexin, son of Raoul II Comte d' Valois , & Crepy and Adele de Breteuil, before 1041.² Aelis (Adele) Comtesse de Bar-sur-Aube died in 1053.¹
     She The marriages of Aelis are very confusing to say the least. I think thatI have sorted them out in order. See notes under Raoul (4th husband) tosee some of the reasons behind all of the 'marriages'. Perhaps the 2nd &3rd of them weren't really marriages, but abductions, which would explainwhy there were so many marriages with little time in between husbands.

I have her with a son by her 1st husband. The account in Raoul's notesdoesn't say anything about earlier children, starting her out as a'widow', apparently of a Joigny.

Emme de Montrevault , Dame de Lude married Raoul IV de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine, son of Raoul III de Beaumont , Vicomte du Maine and Eremburgis (?), between 3 March 1047 and 1048.³ Emme de Montrevault , Dame de Lude died on 12 September 1058.¹
