  1. [S170] The Auburn Citizen, 28 Sep 1918 James M. Nolan of 19 Parker Street, died this morning at the age of 78. A simple cronicle, but it recalls to the minds of many of the former generation, a kind and faithful servant. For over fifty years James Nolan has been working the same garden and about the place at 194 Genesee Street. Fifty one years ago he took service with the late Alonzo G. Beard si ey as a gardener. His employer lived out his alotted time and the one time infant toddling about by the side of the indulgent gardener is n0w Porter Beardsley.
Fiftyone years of service at one place is a record seldom heard of in these days of the transitorineas of hired help, but it is not this alone that has impressed his employers. It
is that he was a gentleman, and as such the men who knew him desire to see his memory honored. James Nolan was born in Queens County. Ireland, and came to America as a young man. Nearly fifty years ago he married Elizabeth Shaw, who still survives him. There were no children, excepting one daughter whn died some years ago. One brother, Michael Nolan living in Auburn, is the only other relative Hving. James fell from a tree in the garden that has been his pride for over a half century a week ago. It was as the result of the injury sustained then that he passed out today with the benediction of the Beardsley family, "well done, good and faithful servant."
He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St Mary's Church, who will go to the home Sunday evening in a body. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at his late home at 9: with services at St. Mary's Church at 9:30 o'clock; the burial will toe in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
