• Decker yDNA Project yDNA testing for Gregory Decker, great-great grandson of Samuel and brother to Aaron Decker have placed thier Decker line as one that another participant has traced back to Jan Broerson Decker b 1630 in Husum, Germany. However, there is no documentation available to test the validity of this pedigree.

    The same yDNA testing has revealed that James Henry Decker is not a direct descendant of Aaron Decker. Subsequent testing has confirmed that Lucy Bonker was, indeed the mother of both Henry S. Decker and Lydia Decker Armbruster, and that Lydia Armbruster was, indeed the daughter of William H. Decker but Henry's father was NOT William Decker. . yDNA testing has produced a common paternal grandfather for two Stokes men.and Family Finder testing for James has also shown a possible 3rd cousin relationship with a person with a Pritchard ancestor, but no close matches are found for this surname Pritchard. Another possibility is Graham or Jones, neighbors of the Decker's in 1892. A distant yDNA match gives a Towery or Stokes ancestor. Several Stokes infants are buried in a small cemetery on the Decker farm in Montezuma, as a family lived on a neighboring road. So far, no male descendents of this family have been located for DNA testing, but that would be an obvious area for future yDNA research. No Towery or Lowery variants are found in the vicinity in any censuses.

    mtDNA results for the maternal line go back to Margaret Forster or Foster born in Ireland. The informant on the death certificate for Jane Somerville Henderson, stating Martha Dale, sister, brings into question the actual line of descent, but in either event, should Martha Henderson Dale be the dsughter or sister of Jane Somerville, the family mtDNA would be the same.
