In right of hisrepresentation of Thomas, Duke of Gloucester and Earl of Buckinghamabovenamed (the 6th and youngest son of Edward III), he appears to haveentertained some notions of his possible right to the Crown, and havingincurred the enmity of Cardinal Wolsey, then Chief Minister, was accusedand found guilty, on very flimsy grounds, of high treason 13, andexecuted on Tower Hill, 17 May 1521, and was buried at Austin Friars,London, aged 43, the attainder being confirmed in Parliament 31 July1523, when all his honours became forfeited.

NOTE: Thornbury Castle was built as one of the first, more modern,palaces--not a castle, as the use of cannons made castles obsolete. Itwas over half completed when the Duke was executed. It (at least the60-70% that was completed) is currently used as a unque hotel. I havestayed at the hotel twice now, in the Queen Mary room, as Henry VIII, whoconfiscated the Castle when he executed Edward, kept his young daughterMary there during part of her adolescence. The Castle was not acrenelation/remodel of a previous manor, but was all new construction. The grandness and largeness of the construction (it would hold manysoldiers in barracks embedded within the walls enclosing the gardens &fields around the castle) is said to have contributed to the suspicionsof Wolsey/Henry VIII.
