     William Patrick McGrath was born on 6 June 1877 at Ireland.³ He married Julia Burns, daughter of James Burns and Ellen V. Shaw, circa 1908. William Patrick McGrath married Helen E. Kavanagh, daughter of Thomas Henry Kavanagh and Jane D. Shaw, circa 1918. William Patrick McGrath died on 24 August 1945 at Cerebral Hemorrhage, Auburn, Cayuga, New York, USA, at age 68; Cause of death per St. Joseph's records is cerebral hemorrhage.⁴
     He immigrated in 1904.⁵

     Nancy Elizabeth Shaw is the daughter of William Francis Shaw Jr. and Joyce Bannister.

     William Francis Shaw IV is the son of William Francis Shaw III.

     Kathleen Elizabeth Shaw is the daughter of William Francis Shaw III.

     Joyce Bannister married William Francis Shaw Jr., son of Dr. William Francis Shaw Sr. and Elizabeth Laviolette, in 1953.¹

     James Carr married Mary Kathleen Shaw, daughter of William Francis Shaw Jr. and Joyce Bannister.

     James Lee Carr is the son of James Carr and Mary Kathleen Shaw.

     John Shaw Carr is the son of James Carr and Mary Kathleen Shaw.

     Thomas Henwood is the son of David Henwood and Margaret Ann Walter.¹

     Helen German married Laurence Shaw, son of Thomas Shaw Sr.¹
     The Germans or Jarmans or more correctly the Germaines were very big landholders in Ballyburn at that time. Whether or not Helen German is an 'offshoot' of this family, one can only speculate.¹

Helen German was also known as Helen Germaine.

     Catherine Shaw was born after 1775. She was the daughter of Laurence Shaw and Helen German. Catherine Shaw married Daniel Nolan on 25 March 1811 at Castledermot, Kildare, Ireland.¹

     David Shaw was born circa 1793. He was the son of Laurence Shaw and Helen German. David Shaw married Mary Farrell on 22 June 1829 at Tinryland, Carlow, Ireland.^1,2 David Shaw died before 1876.³
     He is probably the David Shaw who witnessed the birth of Michael Godfrey circa 28 October 1821 at Ballyburn, Kildare, Ireland.^1,4 David Shaw witnessed the baptism of Michael Godfrey on 28 October 1821 at Castledermot, Kildare, Ireland.⁴

     John Shaw was born circa 1 July 1795 at Ballyburn, Kildare, Ireland.¹ He was christened on 1 July 1795 at Castledermot, Kildare, Ireland.^2,1 He was the son of Laurence Shaw and Helen German.
     John Shaw witnessed the marriage of David Shaw and Mary Farrell on 22 June 1829 at Tinryland, Carlow, Ireland.^2,3

     Thomas Shaw Sr. was born before 1735.¹ He married an unknown person circa 1755. He died after 1798.¹
     The infrequent occurance of the surname Shaw or its variants Shoe and Shew in the early Castledermot records leads me to believe that they are all derived from the same person - viz. Thomas Shaw Sr., who married about 1755. For certain, the Shaws of Castledermot town are definitely descended from Thomas Shaw Sr., who, along with his sons John and Thomas Jr. are mentioned in documents relating to the 1798 rebellion as being members of the United Irishmen. I believe that the Shaws of Ballyburn and later Knocknagee, are also descended from Thomas Shaw Sr., through another son, Laurence Shaw, who is known to be living in Ballyburn in 1795. Furthermore, the frequent use of the christian names Thomas and John, and most significantly, David, among the Shaws, also lead me to the same conclusion. Whereas the Shaws of Knocknagee were tenants of a small land holding and were relatively comfortable, the Shaws of Castledermot town would have lived in relative poverty.

One can only speculate if the Thomas Shaw Sr mentioned above is in any way connected to the protestant George Shaw buried in Saint James' cemetary, Castledermot and whose inscription reads:

In August 1797 Fardy sworn in by John Bulger of Castledermot, Shoemaker; Stephen Hayden of Castledermot recommended as one of company; Fardy was Corporal.
Men of company: John Hayden, John Lawler, Peter Lawler, James Lawler, Christopher Slator, Mathew Maher, Michael Power, Patrick Bearney, John Shoe, Thomas Shoe Sr. and Thomas Shoe Jr. ìLuke Brannick of Castledermot Yeomanry was his Captain [see below]. Fardy was to give a subscription of 3 pence to John Hayden his Sergeant to give to Luke Brannick.     
Fardy saw Peter Doyle, Labourer after 11 pm in street, pike in hand; also John Farmer. Fardy knows Michael Shannon of Moone to be a United Irishman and Mathew Hayden of the Old Turnpike - Fardy gave him a shilling to buy iron to make a tool, and Hayden said: "everyone of them would want a tool" Hayden gave Fardy a pike a few days after. Brian Bulger is a United Irishman - Fardy gave him subscription of 3 pence which Bulger said was by order of Lord Edward. James Kenna a United Irishman and Philip Hoar of Bolton Hill. Fardy heard Thomas Reynolds of Kilkea was his Colonel.¹

     Thomas Shaw was born after 28 April 1790.¹ He was the son of John Shaw and Judith Doyle. Thomas Shaw married Elizabeth McDonald on 7 January 1818 at Castledermot, Kildare, Ireland.¹
     Thomas Shaw Apart from daughters Judith Shaw and probably Ellen Shaw, there is no mention of this family in Scully's Census of 1840. in 1840.

     Thomas Shaw Jr. was born circa 1764. He was the son of Thomas Shaw Sr. Thomas Shaw Jr. married Joanna Nevil circa 1789 at Ireland.¹
     Thomas Shaw Jr. was also known as Thomas Shoe Jr.¹ He was a member of the United Irishmen in 1798 - See note for Thomas Shaw, Sr. He witnessed the marriage of John Shaw and Judith Doyle on 28 April 1790 at Castledermot, Kildare, Ireland.² Thomas Shaw Jr. witnessed the marriage of Anne Shaw and James Doyle on 20 January 1796 at Castledermot, Kildare, Ireland.^1,3
