    Sister Agnes Shaw, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Amator) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, October 26, 2020, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY.

    She was born on October 4, 1932, in Waverly, NY. She was the daughter of the late David and Margaret O’Connor Shaw. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1950, and made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1953, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1956.

    Sister Agnes served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Mary Elementary School in Holidaysburg, PA, from 1953 to 1960; Sacred Heart Elementary School in La Plata, MD, from 1960 to 1962; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York, NY, from 1962 to 1967; and St. Stephen Elementary School in New York, NY, from 1967 to 1970.

    She served as principal at the following schools: St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1970 to 1975; St. John Elementary School in Binghamton, NY, from 1975 to 1986; and St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1986 to 2001.

    Sister also served as assistant to the principal at Our Lady of Sorrows-Seton Campus Elementary School in Endicott, NY, in 2001; coordinator of administrative services at Our Lady of Sorrows-Seton Campus Elementary School in Endicott, NY, from 2001 to 2010; and administrative assistant at Seton Catholic at All Saints School in Endicott, NY, from 2010 to 2014.

    From 2014 until the time of her death, Sister Agnes served on family ministry to her sister, Margaret, who died on Sunday, one day before Sister Agnes.

    She received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree both in elementary education from Marywood College.

    She is preceded in death by two brothers, David and Joseph; and a sister, Margaret Graboski.

    She is survived by nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; and the members of the IHM Congregation.

    The funeral will be Saturday, October 31, at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial for both Sister Agnes and Margaret at the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre, PA. Interment will be at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. Due to restrictions related to the coronavirus, the funeral mass and graveside service are private.

    DAVID FRANCIS ‘DUSTY’ SHAW, JR., 76, of 208 N. Elmer Ave., Sayre died unexpectedly on Sunday Aug. 14, 2005 at the Robert Packer Hospital. He was born on Jan. 2, 1929 in Buffalo, N.Y. He was the son of David F. Sr. and Margaret Ann O’Connor Shaw. He attended Epiphany Elementary School and Sayre Area High School, graduating in 1948. He married the former Helen Marie Welch in January 1953. He was employed at Thatcher Glass in Elmira, retiring in 1972. He was proprietor of Shaw and Ball Jewelry, Harlem Astronauts, Shaw’s Family Restaurant and Ice Cream Stand, Shaw Brothers Sports, and Shaw Brothers Fund Raising. He was also booking agent for the Arkansas Lassies, California Cuties, Eddie Feigner, and his Court, Queen and her maids, Jimmy Cole Circus, Billy Martin Circus, and numerous country acts. He also promoted numerous Irish festivals. He was one of the original founders of Sayre Little League and Sayre Small Fry football. He co-founded Valley Slo Pitch Softball Tournament. He coached many youth in numerous sports, as well as in life, throughout the Valley and enjoyed every minute of it. He officiated numerous sports in Pennsylvania and New York state. He was a life long member of Epiphany Catholic Church, he was also a Eucharistic Adorer, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Legacy Legend, Sayre Redskin Club Hall of Fame, amongst many others. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe; son, John Mark; and grandson Ryan Patrick Howland. He is survived by: loving wife of 53 years, Helen Marie Welch at home. Children; Mary Cochi (Ed Day, fiancé), Maureen (Harry) Howland, and Margaret (Joseph) Barry all of Sayre, Joseph (Colleen) Shaw, Livonia, New York, David F. III (Kathy) Shaw, Michael (Beth) Shaw, James (Sandra) Shaw, Kevin (Karen) Shaw, and Timothy (Jennifer Hessler, fiancée) Shaw all of Sayre, Pamela Diehl, Dusty and Helen’s “Adopted daughter.” Grandchildren; David F. IV (Sarah), Justin, Jordan (Jessie), Christopher, Bridget, Devin, Gabrielle, Ashley, Erica, Chelsea, John, Michael, Mary Kate, and Patrick Joseph Shaw, Megan (Douglas) Kara and Suzanne Cochi, Katelyn and Brian Howland. A Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa. Family will receive friends on Tuesday; Aug. 16, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. There will be a biblical wake service. Family suggests contributions be made to the Legacy, P.O.
