Jack was a graduate of St. Alphonsus Grammar School, Holy Family High School and Niagara University. He had owned and managed Nolan"s Shoe Store for more than 55 years. He and his late twin brother, Robert "Bob" Nolan, were born on Aug. 11, 1924, the son of Clarence and Ruth Herrmann Nolan. He was a founding member of Sacred Heart Church, a daily communicant and Mens Club member at Sacred Heart, a member of the Auburn Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Chamber of Commerce and was an avid sportsman, especially fond of golfing at the Lakeview Country Club. He was an amateur licensed pilot by the age of 19, and always maintained a great sense of humor and good story. Surviving is his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Flynn Nolan, whom he married on Feb. 22, 1954, in St. Patrick"s Church, Seneca Falls; and their children, Michael C. (Alexandra) Nolan, of Mountclair, N.J., Edward J. Nolan, DDS, of Auburn, James G. (Terri Jo) Nolan, of Hershey, Pa., Thomas J. Nolan, of Moravia, Paul W. (Kathleen) Nolan, of Ilion, Mary Jo (Barry) Copeland, of Camillus; daughter-in-law, Theresa M. Nolan, of Camillus; one sister, Mary Ellen (Robert) Smith, of Mont Royal, Va.; 14 grandchildren, Daniel Nolan Jr., Meghan Nolan, Brian Nolan, Peter Nolan, Stephen Nolan, Matt Nolan, Katie Nolan, David Nolan, Elizabeth Nolan, Emily Nolan, Brendan Copeland, Paige Copeland, Lynn Copeland and Patrick Copeland; sister-in-law, Jean Nolan, of Auburn; brother-in-law, Leo Denault, of Delmar; several nieces, nephews and cousins. "Bob" Nolan, admired local businessman and owner of Bob Nolan"s Sporting Goods, passed away peacefully Aug. 6, 2008, at Oneida Hospital, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was a native of Auburn, and resided in Auburn all of his life. He was a 1942 graduate of Holy Family High School and graduated from Niagara University in 1950. Bob initially worked for his father, Clarence, at Nolan"s Shoe Store, then in 1953, established Bob Nolan"s Sporting Goods, which he owned and operated until its closing in 2004. Bob was a member of the National Guard, a founding father of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Sacred Heart Men"s Club, a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council 207, former president of Auburn Lions Club and a lifetime member of Fleming No. 1 Fire Department. Bob was a bit of an entrepreneur in his ventures. One of his noted accomplishments was the partnering of his business with Greek Peak Ski Resort in Virgil, introducing thousands of locals to Central New York skiing. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golf, downhill skiing, bowling, hunting, riding his 4-wheeler and mowing lawn on his tractor. Bob was a wonderful husband, the best father and grandfather and great-grandfather ever. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Ruth Herrmann Nolan; his sister, Betty Jane Denault; his Godson, Danny Nolan; and his faithful canine companion, Penelope. Bob is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Jean Meddaugh Nolan; his twin brother, Jack (Betty) Nolan; and his sister, Mary Ellen (Bob) Smith. Bob will be deeply missed by his children, Pam (aka No. 1) and Larry Saphara, Tim and Kim Dixon Nolan, Patrick Nolan, Terri and Tom Personius, Peggy Nolan, Liz and Tony Burgos, Andy and Kelly Nolan, and Chris Nolan (aka No. 8). Bob is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeff Saphara and Kim Saphara Peck, Ian and Tristan Nolan, Dustin, Heather and Callie Personius, Emery and Kiley House, Adrian and Vanessa Burgos, Ryan and Eric Nolan and Amanda and Nick Kazanivsky; his great grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Nathan, Stefani Marie and Braelyn Capri; his loyal and devoted buddy, George Offenburg; and his loving puppy, Colby.     Joseph was a native and life resident of Auburn and was the son of the late Gaetano and Rafaella Christopho Cimildora. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He was a member of the Finger Lakes District Council, Local 187, for more than 50 years, and was employed as a carpenter, working for firms such as Bouley Construction and lastly, Bennett & Sons, from which he retired in 1971. Enjoying a long, healthy retirement, he was an avid fisherman tackling the various Finger Lakes stock of trout for many years.
