    Classification: Query
I have Mary Magdalin married to Christian Ortt, s/o Johannes and Maria Rosina Fisher Ortt and Mary Magdalin's father as John Schuler. I was given this information by another Ortt reseacher so I'm not sure of the source. My line is through Johannes' brother, Johan Henrich Orth/Ort who married an Anna Catherina LNU. Their 1st son was John who was born in Lehigh Co. around 1768. He was sponsored by Anna Margaret Schuler. I'm not sure if this is her maiden or married name. Johan Henrich and Anna Catherina's 2nd son was named Abraham. In keeping with the naming tradition, this should be Anna Catherina's father's name. So on a hunch I'm looking for an Abraham Schuler as possibly the father of my Anna Catherina. Do you have any information on Abraham's other children? or the name of his wife?
Thanks for responding to my query.

Additional notes on Elias were derived from an article extracted from a book entitled "Roberts' Biographies published in 1904. The original article related to Rowley K. Ortt but gives a details of Elias' service in the Civil War (the Rebellion), his birth place, trade, children, wife and in-laws. A paper copy of the article is on file under Rowley K. Ortt. The information must be assumed to have been derived from an interview between Rowley and the author of the book.

Enlisted at the beginning of the Civil War as a Private in the 129th New York Volunteer Infantry which was later redesignated as the 8th Heavy Artillery. He served for approximately 3 years and was discharged due to an incurable illness. He was discharged 8 October 1863 from Company B at Ft. McHenry, Baltimore, MD (see the book "Full Measure of Devotion" by Wilbur Russell Dunn, Part I page 217). Elias was returned to his home in Niagara County (Cambria?) by two comrades in an invalid's chair and placed in bed. His wife Arthusia Peterson cared for him inspite of her own poor health. Arthusia died on 28 Novenber 1864 as a result of Consumption (Tuberlosis) and a rupture injury suffered trying to move Elias without assistance from someone else. Daily care of Elias after her death was in the hands of a nurse. Elias' illness was cited as "a result of being placed in the cookhouse and the steam from cooking pork being the cause of his illness" (Roberts' Bios). According to the article he was living with his son Cyrus at time of the printing. As years passed along, Elias recovered and his strength was regained although to what degree isn't know.

Per the Roberts' Bios. article, Elias was a Contractor and Builder responsible for a number of prominent buidings in the area as well as in Beamsville, Ontario, Canada (including a school, a church and a parsonage). Elias relocated his family to the areas where he was contracted to construct buildings. Per the 1860 Census, Elias was shown to be a Mason. He was (an unknown value) at Mason.
